BasicPhone SIM Card Set Up Instructions

Using a SIM Card

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Before using any SIM Card with your BasicPhone the SIM lock feature must be switched on. You must activate this feature using a conventional mobile phone. You can find this feature within the security settings of a conventional mobile phone. We recommend the SIM card lock code (PIN – Personal Identity Number) is set as 0000. This feature must be switched on. This is not the keypad lock function found within the phone settings.

Airtime providers

If you are not familiar with mobile phone networks there are several different airtime providers, such as Vodafone, Orange and O2 to name but a few. Most handsets supplied by these airtime providers are restricted for use only with their own SIM cards. For example a Vodafone SIM card may only be used in a Vodafone supplied handset. Therefore setting the SIM card lock feature on a Vodafone SIM card can only be done within a Vodafone supplied handset. Your BasicPhone is unlocked for use with, to the best of our knowledge, most airtime providers SIM cards (therefore airtime contracts and Pay As You Go).

Airtime contracts

If you have an existing SIM card from your own mobile phone you will be able to use this in your BasicPhone but please first set the SIM card lock feature. However, nowadays a large number of airtime contacts are available and range from PAYG (Pay As You Go) where you can top up your phone with as much credit as you need to. Some airtime providers will offer a short term contract of 30 days which will allow you cheaper call rates with a short 30 day notice period should you wish to cancel the contract. Other tariffs are available but will vary in cost based on the amount of calls you will wish to make. The type of airtime contract you have does not effect the operation of your BasicPhone.

Virtual airtime providers

There are an increasing number of virtual airtime providers who will be able to provide airtime contracts and are acting as agents for the main airtime providers.

Fitting/inserting your SIM Card

Fig.1

Using a small Phillips screwdriver; remove the screw from the back of your BasicPhone and lift off the clear plastic cover.

Carefully lift away to the right hand side the thin silver battery, and at this point it would be helpful to note down the phone serial number shown on the label stuck to the back of the phone e.g. S/N: 007393 (this number can also be found on the packaging your phone was boxed in) (fig.1).

Fig.2

Carefully slide metal clasp to the right to open the SIM cradle (fig 2).

Fig.3

The cradle will now lift and hinge over to the right (fig.3).

Fig.4

First position your SIM card so that the gold coloured contacts are face down with the card in this position. Ensure that the ‘cut-off’ corner is at the bottom left. Now carefully slide the card all the way into the plastic cradle ensuring that it fits below the metal clasp
(fig 4).

Fig.5

Carefully hinge the cradle back down and with one finger press it down onto the contacts and slide the metal clasp all the way to the left to lock the cradle. Carefully replace the battery into original position. Replace the plastic cover and refit the screw with Phillips screwdriver (fig .5).

Looking at the front of the phone, push the right-hand switch up for 3 or 4 seconds. The screen will display a message of ‘please wait’. It may take a few minutes for your SIM card to initiate itself onto the cellular network.

Programming Basic Phone Preference Numbers

User will need to know their PIN number.

When programming your basic phone please enter the full phone number including STD code and if your basic phone is to be used outside of the UK please enter +44 in front of the number and your UK country code.

If you just put in your UK number the system will assume it is a UK number and will add the appropriate +44 country code.

If you are entering a number that is outside of the UK you will need to enter + by the appropriate country code i.e. Ireland (Republic of +353).

After entering the phone number and name details you must click the apply button on the right to each entry. Before you close this site please print off the speed dial list by clicking on the print button on the bottom of the screen.

We recommend you print 2 copies of this speed dial list.

As your phone is updated you will hear a short beep and the screen will show the word message. When you next use the phone to dial — the word 'message' will be erased.
